On April 17th, 2010, Pastor Wendy Toon was consecrated Bishop at the Keys of Kingdom Tabernacle Church in Brockton, MA. Bishop Toon was the first female Cape Verdean to be consecrated bishop in the New England region.
With strong conviction she believes “Where there is no vision, the people will perish” Proverbs 29:18 and is reminded of the wise saying “if you give a man a fish he will eat for a day, teach him how to fish and he will eat for a lifetime”. Bishop Toon desires to teach God’s people how to fish, to maintain self-sufficiency, self worth, to educate themselves in order to educate their families and the community. She believes the best way to assure the success of an individual is to accommodate them holistically. Moreover, she wants to teach others how to apply the Word of God to break the bondage of poverty, dysfunctional, and generational curses that promotes drug and alcohol addictions, unwed pregnancy, gang involvement, and broken homes and shattered dreams.
As a social worker with the Department of Social Services she is faced daily with the task of reuniting families and with the responsibility of finding homes for children who’s lives have been shattered and the memory of abuse, neglect, and violence is there only connection to their family. Bishop Toon’s assignment is to bring families together to show them the road to recovery through the Word of God.
Moreover, she is a servant and a leader who knows how to follow Christ and is an exhorter. She loves helping others reach their potential and believes that everyone should be given the opportunity to have the best quality of life.
